Did I mention that about three weeks ago, my pre-mission son (who lives at home)calls his dad on his cell phone at 2:00 am with this dialog....
"Dad? Duuuuude...there is a bat in my bedroom!"
Apparently it came in when he got in that evening, nestling itself on the floor,in the doorway of his room. He said he walked in and out of there several times that evening, until he got ready to hit the hay.(I guess ESPN gets boring at 2:00am.) Then he turned on the light for the first time that night, only to see what he thought was a 'leaf' on the floor. (See we have a theme here) So he pokes at it with his handy dandy Boy Scout walking staff, and it hissed at him. Thank goodness we had him clean his room the day before, or it would have taken up residence in the endless pile of polo shirts, breeding and no doubt, making his room a true belfry. So the trusty Dad went downstairs to, what we now fondly call "the Batcave" and disposed of the little beastie.
But it looks like his momma sent a posse out to look for him....

BTW, that is not a picture of my hubby capturing the minion of darkness. He actually nabbed it in a Food Lion bag and...well, it's face could show up on a milk carton in a neighborhood near you.

Ugh, I might have a heart attack!
Ewww! It just sends shivers up my spine!! Let us know how you get all them bats out. Ughh!
So how do you get bats out of your belfry????
Oh my… I would have a hard time sleeping at night…Worse than reading a murder mystery before bed…..
That is so cool your sons are so faithful.
Glad your son will be serving in Idaho…My hubby is from that state…Trust me, Idaho needs all the help they can get….No offense to any one from Idaho…I am sure you are the exception….
He will do great and be a blessing to many. He will love the Idahoians and they will love him..…Did he do the Kirby Heyborne dance from Singles Ward??? That is my favorite movie scene ever!!!!!
You are such a good mom to be raising such good missionaries…
I forgive you for the scrapbooking foray…The story of your dear missionary praying on the side walk with the Coors drinker just melted my heart…
Hope you have a great weekend..
Casa.
PS.. My Elder is serving in the land down under…..Home of kangaroos and koala bears…
They are hanging out on the outside of the attic vent,so a screen is actually keeping them out. The little rascal that made it in the house came in through the door to the walk in basement. Which is not the same as the Beatles song...She came in through the bathroom window...(here I go..)
They eat mosquitoes! They are my friends as long as they live outside my house. And I don't have to look at them squirming in the eaves. Yechhh!
Casa, your son is 'down under'? That is so cool! When does he come home? Rather I should say, how long has he been out? We don't count down, we count the days of service. Today is day 717. Sigh..
Don't laud my parenting skills, my first one left the fold. I learned a long time ago that free agency is alive and well.I am grateful my sons chose to serve.
We have no relations in Idaho, and since my son hates mashed taters, it will be a sacrifice. Oh well, the things one must do to serve the Lord.
Oops, ..My apologies …Must make a retraction. I love Idaho….I love all the people in Idaho…They’re great!!! Idaho is a wonderful state…Some of my best friends are Idahoians…The man I love is from Idaho….Did I grovel enough to be forgiven?????
Oops, I posted that before I read your reply…I am hiding out from a wild teen party..well, not too wild they are watching Balto and eating Reese’s Peanut Butter S’mores..You are an awesome mom…With broods our size the good Lord sees fit to give us a variety of spirits.…Keeps us humble…You are so good to be counting days…My Elder will be home next July…
BATS!!!! I would die!! Thankfully Ive never seen a bat in AK, although if they mosquitos maybe that would be a GOOD thing?
EEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!! Have you gotten any sleep with those blood-sucking buggers around? How does one dispose of a bat? Even though I feel like gagging right now, I still LOVE your blog. :)
Oh wow. I just jumped up on my couch and freaked out because it gave me the willies so bad....bats are so disgusting! I'm so sorry!
Congrats on your son coming home and your son going to Idaho. What a busy summer - bats and all!
okay, if I have to look at that nasty trapped-bat picture EVER again while I am still breathing it would STILL be too soon. blichhhhhhh
I'm searching the world over for a cute/not taken 20-something dynamo for your RM. Didn't he have a girlfriend when he left? I'm trying to jog my memory...but it's tired and NOT cooperating.
I love me my MAH. Thanks for finding your two illegitimate offsrings again. Ps2 and I have been lost souls with out you. okay, maybe not LOST per se, just bored :)
oh, and we had a bat living in our entry way alcove thingy for a few seasons...not so bad when they are curled up and asleep. Plus they DO eat bugs and we make mascara out of their poo. true story. :)
(oh, jeff and I don't actually collect the poo and create make-up...the mascara people do...that was confusing...sorry:)
I will never look at mascara the same way again. And somehow, imagining you stooping over with a mascara wand, daintily touching it to the poo....:)
The girl that he left behind is safely engaged to someone else. Of course nothing is done till the actual deal is done, so I am not dancing yet. Believe me, we were ECSTATIC to hear the news.
She is not inside the circle of trust.
Don't get me started!!!!
Needless to say, I wouldn't mind a bat or two getting tangled up in her hair.
(somewhere in the distance, can you hear a witch cackling?)
hee hee mah. I knew you didn't hold any special place in your heart for her, but I didn't dare to lay it out here in black in white for fear she might be one of your blog readers :)
oh man, "circle of trust". I need to dig out that movie :)
Hi, I know I'm so random, but oh my goodness you crack me up! I just had to say that...
Mah, I can't believe you have returned!!! I've missed you. (Ps this is Manda in case you couldn't tell.)
I can't believe the bat pic- that is amazing and a bit repulsing. I suppose you're a better woman than I am because I do think that I would have completely freaked out!!!
Tell your son not to knock Boise 'till he arives. I spent 8 months in Boise after we were married and loved it!!! (DH is from that area.) My cousin is actually just getting ready to leave that mission here in like a week.
Good luck on the scrapbooking fiance search. Do you have a daughter looking for a Luarel project?! I did my brother's mission/letters scrapbook as a Laurel project back in the day. : )
Anyway. Glad to see you around!
Manda
I must say, I'm sure I'm a little late on this scrapbooking thread, but i have spent the last 6 hours, yes you've heard that right, 6 hours working on my BIL's mission scrapbook. I'm telling you, slapping the picture to a white page is looking very appealing to me right now.
And I second the idea of giving it to your son's future wife....whoever that may be. Forget the stickers, bows, ribbons, rick rack, appliques, etc. Let her have at it and make it gorgeous!
OK, how is it, that slapping four pictures on a colored background, with the caption displayed under it, be so time consuming? No stickers, no rick rack, no buttons, snaps or ribbons. Just the straight poop.Next time, it's going to be digital. This was a giant mess. I'm letting him finish it. He probably has stuff to add to it anyway. It is huge enough to be impressive, yet not so intimidating that I'll have to do it.
